Asking For Volunteers! The Hope and Beyond Family
HIV/AIDS Prevention, Awareness, and Testing Project-India is designed to assist in diminishing the further spread
of HIV/AIDS. India was picked as the example nation for the peer-to-peer Hope and Beyond Student Service-Learning
Project for its language compatiblity for American students. According to United Nations reports, along with Africa,
India is expected to reach the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infections globally within this decade. India’s peril
will demonstrate firsthand to students and the viewing public the devastating effects of this disease on the victims,
their families, the economy, and society as a whole. Amongst the youth of America the virus could spread exponentially
as it has in India and in Africa, where 40+ years of known infection has devastated the population. The projects
goal is to provide a service-learning role model leadership-building legacy, which will give the next generation
of students a multicultural, ethically focused communications platform from which they can continue to effect change. The 2002 San Antonio Run for Hope and Beyond On September 21, 2002 San Antonio students completed
the run model, the first of their annual awareness and fundraising runs. Saint Mary’s Hall High School students
assisted in organizing 160 student runners and pledge holders who participated in raising funds to create the Project’s
Hope and Beyond HIV/AIDS Family Prevention, Awareness, and Testing Kits. Assisted by experts, the students are
developing the prevention kits that will contain HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness, testing and treatment information,
and a US-FDA approved portable test for HIV antibodies. The Kits are designated for distribution
to impoverished families in India in 2004-5. Note; Ernst & Young LLP offices in San
Antonio, Texas, and Palo Alto, California, contributes contribution oversight services for the Project India fundraising
events. CONTACT: globalgarden@juno.com
